90sThe past few weeks have been quite a ride.
Went to the studio on Tuesday, had to leave class early for recording. I recieved the unmixed track yesterday. WOW. I have to say, we choice one really awesome studio. Even though it wasn't mixed, it was a really good sound! And timeshifting someparts made the whole song sound just awesome.
Can't wait to hear the fully mixed track.
Well, I met Ian yesterday. Old friend. We used to fight with wooden swords, just for fun. Fought till we had bruises all over, blisters on our palms, not fully functioning joints. Infact, Ian, a dedicated martial artist, had to cut down on his training almost completely because of a slipped disc. May he get well soon.
I once wanted to be a ninja. It was the only thing I could ever imagine as an occupation. Plenty of action, plenty of mystery, and ooooohhhhhh....glorious violence. But the world changes, and we must move with time, so I decided that music was everything. Nostalgia emanates from within as I remember auburn leaves in the park, my sweaty body sifting through the cool breeze....A wooden stick in my hand. Another training was over, a really good one.
Joe lent me two CDs. One by his father and another by his uncle. His entire family is comprised of musicians you see. I think it was the most touching music I have ever heard. CDs that were recorded back in the 90s. Mostly ballads which I really enjoyed. I really want to experience the 90s as a kid again; listening to one of the songs reminded me of those events back in the day, a song about how the years we've lived begin to seem more routine with each passing year as we change with our surroundings.
The late 90s was a time in my life which I won't easily forget. Primary school and my old house at Duchess Court. These were the days that I really enjoyed. I paid a visit to my kindergarten sometime ago, in 2007 I think. The place had changed a lot and I really felt like a kid all over again...The rooms were still the same, and I could imagine my younger self sitting where lessons used to be conducted. Met Mrs Goh there as well. She's been teaching there all these years. And guess what, she recognised me. I had not seen her for 14 years then, and yet..... I was at a loss for words.
I tried searching for childhood friends. To no avail, except for one guy. His name is Weichuan and we were great friends back in kindergarten. But we never saw nor contacted each other after that ended. I found him on friendster, or maybe I thought I found him because his features were simillar to the Weichuan I knew. I always thought a reunion with long lost friends would be filled with joy and all that happy stuff...But the Weichuan I knew back then was no longer the same, because.....judging from the photos, and the way he describes himself, he has become one of those "ah bengs". All about the "brothers"....I may have passed by him unknowingly when I walked by one of the HDB void decks. I can never get along with those sorts....it is very sad.
Sometimes, you think of all the people you once knew, people who disappeared from your life, whom you've lost contact with, and you really wonder what happened to them.
You really wonder a lot......

SimpleSometimes you just have to be less sensitive to everything on the outside and don't give two shits about what goes on. Life isn't a very complicated thing, but people always complicate it. I just hate it when people do that, make things more complex than they seem. I come from an engineering course, and some would say its complicated. Its only complicated because all the terms are important and all the calculations must be precise, that's all about engineering.
Oh yeah, but I still hate the terms part; giving TERMS to things always works in making them sound more difficult. Music is simple but people must complicate it so much all the time. Fuck 'em.
Life was originally sticks and stones and mud and poop, and the occassional dragon to slay. Now, there are dragons to slay everyday because everything is so complicated. When I was a kid, it was so easy to approach someone and be friends, all you had to do was walk up to them and ask. But now you have to wonder, is it going to seem weird? Is my impression/tone the right one? Do I look like a noob? Will they laugh at me? See, social life is complicated.
Parents are complicated.
We must always remember, that our parents grew up in a much different environment from us, so their expectations for us are much different. This is where it gets complicated. Gosh, I don't even have to say it, you already know what I mean. Parents ARE complicated.
Feelings aren't soooo complicated.
Feelings are abstract, and abstract things should be simple, recognized with just a thought. But when someone has to dissect every part of those feelings so that they can tell it to you bit by bit, it gets complicated. REALLY complicated. Feelings are not just complicated; They're complicatons too. They get in the way of things. And the same goes to thoughts. Thoughts are just fucking complicated. Thoughts and feelings combined gives you an unbeatable amount of complication. There must be a solution to that: When the time comes, just STOP THINKING. Because the more you think, the more you feel, the more you feel, the more you wanna think about it deeper, and that leads to.....a whole lot of SHIT.
Money isn't that complicated.
The way it's spent in this world is though. Because we live in a complicated society which runs on money, and the way they play with money is complicated. Purchasing something will probably land you with paying for the exporting fee and taxing and market price and GST a whole lot more than just the item itself...Oh and not to mention, the over-the-top profits that money-grubbing chain-store-owners have carefully calculated to steal from you in broad daylight.
The lack of money however, is much less complicated. Because we can be certain of what comes with the lack of money. You no longer live a well-fed life, that's what.
Typing all this was really complicated. Because before I typed all this, I had to think, and thinking complicates things (I repeat). Now that I've gone through several logical paradoxes, I feel that everything would be much easier if I just stopped here and stopped thinking.
Simple!

The Rules
The more you want, the more you don't get.
The more you expect, the less you recieve.
The more you love, the more you hate.
The more you hate, the more you love.
The more you try, the more you don't get things done.
So I guess, don't even try, just do it.
Like the Nike ad.
Just DO IT.
I must get back to shooting zombies now.

How I Spent New Year's Eve.
New Year's Eve. Some people dread it because of all the hassle and family dinners and late night outings where all the cabs are taken coz every other John and Jane are out partying too, while some people find a need to celebrate it hoping that things will change for the better in the new year.
I think I may have been in between the two groups.
Anyway, I was supposed to watch a movie with some friends in the afternoon, but I didn't go in the end because I woke up late. Subsequently, I would wake up to the sound of my phone ringing in vain as friends called me repeatedly to no avail. So, since I couldn't make it, I paid a visit to gramophone and bought myself some CDs instead. Its time I had some new music in my life.
Then, Kx wanted to go clubbing. So we went clubbing at night. I took the taxi 3 times today, and it amounted to um...50 bucks worth of cab fare? Ouch! Met up with his friends and we tried to have a good time clubbing. I have not went to a club for 3 years, and to me, clubbing was never an option to pass the time. Not even for New Year's Eve. But I went anyway, what's there to lose? Perhaps some moolah but what the hell, lets try to have instead of the usual hanging out at clarke quay or under the deck. I would have preferred to hang with my bandmates or Shike, Pearlyn, or Joel and Eugenia or something though....
So anyway, clubbing wasn't really that fun. Firstly, coz the place(Powerhouse) was so crowded and there weren't many places to sit down at. Hell, much less space to dance or even stand up straight without having some fucker prod you in the waist with his elbow. So there was a lot of standing around awkardly, walking from place to place, and aimless dancing. The music wasn't really my type either. Lots of hip hop and RnB, and they had butchered up remixes of some of my favorite Rock songs. Guess I must really belong in the moshpit....or a jazz pub, but oh well.
Nevertheless, I tried to make some new friends. So I got to dance with this girl, which was kind of easy coz' she was dancing alone and I just went up and asked if I could dance with her. Dancing wasn't really easy, or at least, its not easy for me to dance. I would've preferred headbanging, which I ended up doing for some time; headbanging to RnB is like trying to drink soup with chopsticks. And the rest of the time I spent dancing was more like doing random dance moves, throwing my arms around and trying to mimic yoga practitioners I saw on TV when I was younger.
Later, I asked for that girls name and where she was from and she said she came from Indonesia. I don't want to hold any prejudice against Indonesians, but I've had various bad experiences with Indos. Sorry...instant turn off. And then the rest of the time clubbing was spent standing about and looking around, because, I'm just NOT NOT NOT feeling the music. I just CANNOT. Who could like this sort of music??? I mean, girls will like it coz' they like to dance and move their bodies and whatever. But guys, unless they're breakdancers or cripwalkers or whatever, I'm sure they go to clubs just to score some cunt. That's all. Its like a try-your-luck-geylang for 35 dollars at the door.
Just glad I didn't get wasted or puke or anything. I did however, get extremely HIGH drinking bottled cider we bought from Cheers before clubbing. Kx said the drinks were gonna be real expensive, so Cheers saved the day. Just one and a half bottles of cider and I was ready to start a riot in the club. Thats pretty much how easily I get high. But it subsided really fast and I got a headache for a while.........GAWD.
The worst part was when we had to take a cab home. Our legs were as sore as someone who never won a game of blackjack ever..........Okay, well, less metaphorically speaking, as sore as shrivelled pickles, coz they felt like they were all shrivelled and lactic acid was pouring through our veins or something...Worst still, everyone from the club was rushing to get a cab so every time we saw a cab, it would have been hired already with BIG RED WORDS spelling "HIRED" for the whole world to see, done on purpose 'undoubtly', so that our sufferring was made known to everyone within the perimeter.
HAHAHA! Look at the sore-legged losers! They want a cab, BUT THEY CAN'T HAVE IT!!! HAHAHA!!
In the end, we got a cab....after 50 minutes of hailing. Happy ending. Sore-foot relief.
But this time clubbing, I felt really good about myself. Coz' I never knew I had the balls to walk up to any girl and ask for a dance. It just happened without me realizing it...I guess that when the time is right, I will have the balls. I'm a fuckin' man! Oh...and yeah, you know those fuckers who block your fucking way when you wanna walk through the crowd? Yeah...There's just no fucking need to say "excuse me" or "sorry" or whatever. Just fucking shove and push your way through like a CHEEBOY. They may respond with a "tsk" or "OI!". Well, FUCK YOU right back coz' I'm a ballsy man and I'll rip your dick off and shove it in your brain cleavage! Yeah...kickass!! HAH!!! And it didn't matter whether any of the girls gave me their phone number, or danced with me, or slept with me, or any other progressively kinky activity....none of that matters...Because I've got the balls! That's all that matters. I don't need anything but balls!
So this New Year's Resolution is simple. Grow bigger balls. I've proven myself to be edging one step closer to having balls, so I guess, its totally cool.....I'm getting there at least. Gonna need plenty of balls for NS in the year 2009.
Oh ya, and quit smoking.
Happy New Year, peeps!

...Sometimes I feel very guilty. Sometimes I feel like these intuitive thoughts I get aren't just my own mind playing a trick. Truly, things are beginning to take a turn, and changes are happening.
A very good friend of mine, a mentor to me, and a respected and inspiring fellow musician has just experienced the loss of his father. I am truly sorry to hear it.
They say lives change others, but death seems to be much more effective in changing others. When someone dies....when someone close to you dies, there is a part of you which dies with them. Truly....That is how people change. And my friend will never be the same again....
Only now do I truly feel a need to say a prayer....
